While there has been a recent upturn in the economy, general recruitment still remains slow. However, the latest website statistics published by Caterer.com suggest that there might be light at the end of the recessional tunnel.
“January 2010 saw the highest number of job seekers ever visiting Caterer.com — a staggering 391,759! This converted to nearly 278,000 job applications,” said Caterer.com website director Ian Burke.” February job numbers were the highest we’ve seen since December 2008, with over 10,000 jobs on the site and 280,015 applications, showing huge job seeker as well as employer activity”
Tony Keating, CEO of SSP, the leading dedicated operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations, including Caffe Ritazza, Millie’s Cookies, and Upper Crust said:
“Since Christmas, we have really started to see some confidence creeping back into our core brands in terms of sales and transaction numbers. I don’t think that any business is out of the woods quite yet but it is encouraging to see the emergence of some promising consumer responses to our new Spring initiatives.”
This is good news for those currently in the market for jobs in hospitality. While business leaders remain cautiously optimistic about the economic recovery, a number of high profile launches in recent months, including the opening of the new £675m extension to the St David’s Centre in Cardiff, creating multiple restaurant jobs, have reinforced the hospitality job market’s new upward trend.
