Whatjobsite job board policy

whatjobsite job board standards policy

There are more than 1,200 job boards in the United Kingdom and Ireland. To ensure that you can find the best job sites and job boards for your vacancies, we have established a number of criteria or standards. All sites returned by our Search Engine or Advanced Search Engine must meet the following conditions*:

  1. The job site or job board must not be an employer's own corporate website or a recruitment agency's own corporate web site. Note: Some recruitment agencies own and/or operate job boards that are distinct from their own corporate websites. Whatjobsite includes such recruitment agency-owned job boards if and only if it is made clear on the job board in question that it is owned and operated by a recruitment agency.
  2. The job site or job board must advertise vacancies from different employers and/or recruitment agencies. Whatjobsite does not include job sites that only advertise jobs for recruitment agencies.
  3. The job site or job board must charge an advertising fee rather than a placement or service fee. Some job boards advertise your jobs on a placement fee basis; but doing so makes them recruitment agencies and subject to recruitment agency standards and legislation. As recruitment agencies, we do not include them on whatjobsite. (Of course, we include free job sites and job boards if they meet our other job board standards.)
  4. The job site or job board must be based in and/or have its principal audience focus in the UK and/or Ireland. Whatjobsite does not include job sites that have their main audience focus outside the UK and/or Ireland.
  5. The job site or job board must be in compliance with web site legislation in the relevant jurisdiction. Web businesses in the UK and Ireland are required to provide information such as company number, registered office address etc. on their website. If websites are in violation of such legislation, we will not include them in our Job Site Search Engine.(*see note below)
  6. The job site or job board must provide full contact information such as address (not PO BOX) and telephone number on its own site or on its whatjobsite profile page. Whatjobsite requires this so that you as an employer can easily contact the site if you need to.
  7. The job site or job board must be a real, stand-alone job board. That is, many job sites and job boards are part of networks that advertise or syndicate the same job ads across numerous different sites. For example, xyzjobs.com might have other sites such as xyzjobsinLondon, xyzjobsinWandsworth, xyzjobsinSurrey. Whatjobsite does not include all job boards in such networks and, rather, applies its discretion in including indicative "core" job sites or job boards.
  8. The job site or job board must provide and/or sell online vacancy advertising as a stand-alone product and not simply as a supplementary or complimentary product. For example, many newspapers and trade publications offer job board advertising only if you first purchase a print ad in their publication. Whatjobsite does not include such sites in our Job Site Search Engine. (*see note below)
  9. The job site or job board must submit its site information to us. To profile and rank job sites accurately on whatjobsite, we require the usual business information but also details of web site traffic, audience breakdown, products and services etc.
  10. Whatjobsite must be able to verify all information supplied to it by the job board. If we can't verify the information, we won't include the job board. [In case you're wondering, we charge job sites a small fee the verification of their information (* see note below)]

* Note: the whatjobsite A to Z Job Board Directory includes job sites that do not appear in the Job Site Search or Advanced Search. The reason for this is that Some of these sites in the A to Z Job Board Directory do not meet the Whatjobsite Job Board Standards Policy, but we have included these sites in order to provide you with a more complete picture of what's available. All such sites carry a note to the effect that they are unverified sites.

Our aim in establishing these job board standards is to help you feel confident in choosing from amongst the job sites and job boards we include on whatjobsite. At the same time, by outlining our standards we hope to make our editorial decisions transparent to job boards that wish to be included in our database. (That being said, whatjobsite reserves the right to accept or reject any site as set out in our terms.)

Finally, and importantly, if you believe that we have included any job site or job board that does not meet the whatjobsite job board standards, or if we are missing a job site that you think we should include, then do please drop us an email and we'll get on it.
